9 Netflix Shows You Need to Watch

One of my favorite things to do on days when I'm free is to bum around and watch Netflix in my pjs while the AC blasts out cool air (obviously if it's kahraba, not eshtirak). I'm constantly discussing what shows to watch with friends, and my "to watch" list keeps getting longer and longer. Is it just me or is almost every show these days really good? Anyway, I thought I'd share my Netflix recommendations with y'all today. I didn't include the big shows that you obviously should know about and should have already watched (ehem Narcos, ehem House of Cards, ehem Orange is the New Black). This list is based on the shows that are currently available to Netflix users in Lebanon. Let me know if you've seen any of these shows or if you have any other recommendations!

This is a Brazilian show I believe, so all the dialogue is in Portuguese. I thought I wouldn't be able to follow along, but it wasn't much of a problem. I keep subtitles on even when I'm watching a show in English so the text didn't bother me. The show somehow reminds me of the Hunger Games, due to the fact that it's a dystopian "thriller",  but it's much more entertaining and thought out.

13 Reasons Why
(teenage drama)
People have been going nuts over this show. Some praise it because it shines a light on mental health issues, depression and suicide, others are pissed because they think it glorifies suicide. I'm in neither of those camps. I appreciate a show talking about mental health, and although I think they could have gone about things in a better way in order to be more informative, I in no way think it glorifies suicide. At the end of the day it's a SHOW made for entertainment purposes, and it does its job to entertain.

Chewing Gum
Chewing Gum will not be to everyone's taste, but it's SO FRIGGIN FUNNY. If you're a fan of British humour, you will love this show. It's basically about this girl called Tracey who works at the corner shop and comes from a very religious family, all she wants to do is become Beyonce and have sex. Honestly explaining the synopsis of the show will not do it justice, give it a go!

The Crown
(biographic drama)
This Netflix original was super addictive. I finished the first season in two days and loved every minute of it. I love watching shows that have hints of history in them and the Crown hit the right spot. The show is a biographical drama about the life of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The first season basically covers the early life of Queen Elizabeth, her marriage to Prince Philip, her father's death and all that jazz. I can't wait for season two, even the real Queen Elizabeth is apparently a fan of the show!

Designated Survivor
(political drama)
Ever since I watched House of Cards a couple of years ago, I've become smitten with shows that revolve around American politics and the white house. The latest season of House of Cards was on the disappointing side, but I've been getting my fix from Designated Survivor. In this political drama, Kiefer Sutherland (from 24) plays the role of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who suddenly becomes the President of the United States after an explosion claims the lives of everyone in the presidential line of succession on the night of the State of the Union. A crazy and scary scenario that makes for a very gripping and entertaining show.

The Keepers
(documentary series, mystery)
Raise your hands if you were addicted to the Making a Murder documentary series on Netflix which came out back in 2015! If you enjoyed that show and love to watch documentaries about murders/mysteries then you MUST watch The Keepers

(romantic comedy)
I stumbled upon this show one day while trying to find something light and cheesy to watch. I hadn't heard of the show before but it was really fun. It's about this guy who finds out he has an STI and he has to contact all his exes and inform them. There's love, romance, British humour, drama, siliness and fun. If you wanna watch something that doesn't need too much concentration, this one's for you!

I kept seeing Travelers in my suggested box on Netflix for months until I finally decided to bite the bullet and watch this show. I was pleasantly surprised with it and enjoyed it very much. It's not the BEST show ever made, but it's interesting and entertaining. Travelers are humans from the future who "travel" back in time in order to save the future of humanity, obviously things don't go according to plan and there's some drama involved. (Ps. If you like Will & Grace, Will is in it!)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
I never understood people's interest in this show. I tried to watch the first episode when it first aired but I hated it. Then, on one hot summer day I accidentally gave this show a go and I did not stop laughing. Kimmy Schmidt was kidnapped and kept in a bunker for 15 years by a "paster". After she's finally saved, she decides to take back her life and move to New York City (duh). For someone who has spent 15 years under ground, she's the perkiest character ever. This show takes a little getting used to, but if you're already a fan of Tina Fey's work, you'll love this show!
