Birthday Getaway at Deir Al Oumara

As I mentioned in my Christmas/Birthday Wishlist, I wanted to have a weekend getaway with friends for my birthday this year. It's a plan which I tried to make happen a couple of times in the past, but it just never did. Finally, this year it happened. It was even more special than a normal getaway because my girlies and I were reunited. My friend Bells was here from Texas and Shahiné surprised me by coming back to Beirut earlier than I thought she would. The three khiars (that's our legit group name) were officially reunited. We headed to Deir al Amar to stay at the beautiful Deir el Oumara hotel for the night. I had seen pictures of this place on Instagram and in Mondanité so it was on my list of places to visit. We stayed in one of the cozy family suites and pretty much spent the whole time eating and taking pictures. Just before the trip, I had discovered the Portrait mode on my phone, so we all took turns abusing it by having mini photo-shoot sessions every 5 minutes. After a lovely night in, the following day we did a little bit of touristing and visited the Beiteddine Palace which was a 10-minute drive away. I don't recall having visited Beiteddine before (maybe when I was a kid?), so it was nice to discover the historical sight with friends. I just wish there were more signs with information throughout the premise. The guides there were nice and helpful, but I like to read about things while in such settings. After Beiteddine, we decided to head to the Barouk Cedar Reserve, it was around a 30 minute drive and the temperature kept going down the closer we got to the reserve. Unfortunately we didn't go in because they were about to close and it was freezing. I guess we'll have to visit it again when the weather gets better. All-in-all, it was an awesome weekend with friends and a much-needed break from the city. I can't wait to have more getaways this year!
