Since I started this blog about a billion and three years ago, I've bombarded my dear readers with the fact that I needed a leather jacket in my life. Posts that go back to 2010 or 2011 can attest to the fact that I've been talking about leather jackets for ages. For the past six-ish years, I've been trying to find the PERFECT leather jacket (biker style, black, with pockets, makes you look like a total bad-ass... you know the kind), and in the past six-ish years, I could not find one that I liked and that fit me right. I don't know if I was looking in the wrong places or if the universe just did not want me to be happy, my money's on the first part. Anyway, long story short, I found it. GUYS, I FOUND IT. Now, I know you're going to point out the fact that "uh, Aline, habibi, are you blind? You said black, that's clearly grey. Is this another blue dress or gold dress thing?" and yes, you're absolutely right it is in fact grey but it's perfect. If anything happens to my closet (estakhfarallah) and I can only salvage one piece, it would be this jacket. How did this jacket come into my life? Grab a coffee, let me tell you. Actually, the story is not that long, but have a coffee anyway...
As some of you already know, I was in California a couple of months ago to visit family, while in the city of angels, I was casually going through my cousin's closet to see what I can steal (this is one of my favorite hobbies, Shahine feels the same way about my closet) and I came across a gorgeous dark grey leather jacket. I tried it on and I could almost hear the hallelujah playing in the background. Upon seeing my face light up, my cousin quickly made me take it off. "Oh no you don't" was probably what she was thinking. Although she didn't let me steal it, she did kindly help me look for one on the Forever21 website so that I could order my own. Order online, GENIUS! Why hadn't I thought of that? I obviously wasn't going to find a leather jacket in stores filled with summer dresses, but everything is (almost) always available online. Oh internet, I love you. I found two jackets that I liked, and they were both very affordable (less than $60 each) so I added them to my cart. Unfortunately, I was traveling the next day so I wasn't going to be able to actually wear the jacket anytime soon (also it was June at this point). Since my parents were going to travel back to Beirut after me, they kindly volunteered to make space in their luggage for it (aka I begged my mom and she said yes). A couple of weeks later, my parents came back and after quickly giving them a hug, I opened their luggage and dug around in search of my jackets. The second I found them, I put them on. The black jacket turned out to not be what I thought it would be (not very biker-ish, but I still liked it), but the grey one was just perfect. I just had to wait around six months for the stupid weather to get colder for me to wear it. I unsuccessfully tried to wear it in August, to spare you details... there was just too much perspiration involved in the whole endeavor. Finally, in November, the weather decided to cool down a bit and I officially could wear my leather jacket and pretend I'm a total badass. I wore it out on a Saturday to drinks with a friend, it was the best night ever (due to jacket wearing and other developments throughout the night which only my #SNAPCHATFAM knows about). I then wore it again to work and made my lovely coworker Sandrine Payan (totally check out her blog) conduct a photo shoot in the "luscious" "garden" we found behind our office building. And that kids is how
I met your mother I found the perfect leather jacket.
